J is for J.D.

Four years ago when I decided to take the LSAT, the day that I would finally get the JD seemed ages away. I had been out of school for awhile, working in various jobs. What finally made me get off my butt and get back to school? I was laid off from a retail job I was working at night to pay off bills. I was tired of working two jobs just to make ends meet. My sister had recently graduated from law school, so I knew I could do it too. It was a lot of hard work, and a lot of time living on a student budget, but I managed to graduate, pass the bar, and get a job.

And today was another rite of passage: I made my first student loan payment.

I'm hoping it doesn't take you 30 years to pay off those loans. I'm hoping it doesn't take 30 years for ME to pay off those loans!

I'm glad you had a far easier time finding a job than I did. For the effort we had to go through school and pass the bar exam it shouldn't be that difficult to find jobs that make use of our degrees, but sadly it's an oversaturated job market.

You like your job I hope :-)

I'm at the other end finally--the loans are nearly all paid off for both my husband and I. I thought the day would never come.

Hopefully you feel the cost was worth it. I know I do.

I do think it was worth it, and I do hope it won't take me 30 years to pay them off!

I was incredibly lucky to find a job so easily - there are plenty of people I graduated with who are still looking. Of course, it's a "temporary" job - 1 or 2 years, so I'm already thinking of where I want to go next. But I have the luxury of using my degree and getting good experience while looking for the "permanent" job - something I feel very lucky for every day!

Brian: people should be begging for you to work for them! :-)

Are you on a 30 year payment plan? I was only on a ten year one and I think that's all they offered when I applied for the loans in the first place. I could defer as long as I was a student. Ten years went by fast!

At least you have something, even if it's only temporary. You'll have more experience going into the next job and hopefully this one will open doors for you. :-)
