M is for Mouse

As in Mickey Mouse.  Lately I have been obsessed with planning my trip to Orlando and my one day in Disney World.  It has brought back many memories of childhood trips to Disneyland with my family.  We used to go every couple of years or so, as it was only a day's drive, and my mom always wanted to go to California for the beach.  I can remember getting up at 4 a.m. to start the drive - we would stop for breakfast along the way - and getting to our hotel in the late afternoon.  Then we would get to swim before dinner.  The next day would be Disneyland - with our first stop at the hat shop to get the Mickey ears and have them personalized.  When we were very little we would go back to the hotel after lunch for a rest and a swim, then return to the park for the parade and fireworks.  My favorite treat was the ice cream on a stick.  I can remember the A, B, C, D and E tickets, and when they started the "flat rate" ticket pricing when you had to show your pass at every ride.

When I was in high school, the academic team I was on got to go to Florida (twice) for a competition.  One year we went to Epcot, the next year we went to the Magic Kingdom.  I remember those trips, but they are not as vivid as the childhood ones to Disneyland.

Its too bad you don't have more time there! I would totally recommend the Keys to the Kingdom Tour that takes you underneath the park. Its worth it on so many levels.
