I saw this at Everyday Reads, and thought it looked fun:
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
I've read for as long as I can remember. I can clearly recall losing myself in books in elementary school. My teacher talked the school librarian into letting me into the "big kids" section while I was still in 1st or 2nd grade.
What are some books you read as a child?
Well, I read everything I could get my hands on. Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Trixie Belden, Cherry Ames, Five Little Peppers, fairy tales, the Boxcar Children. My sister and I would re-enact scenes from the books, and even come up with our own scenarios. I guess it was fanfiction, although we didn't know it at the time.
What is your favorite genre?
You guys know the answer to this - Science Fiction. Not fantasy (Harry Potter is the exception).
Do you have a favorite novel?
I re-read a lot of books. The Handmaid's Tale, the Chtorr series (David Gerrold), Pride and Prejudice, 1984, Jane Eyre.
Where and when do you usually read?
At work during lunch, in the evening while watching TV, and before bed. Anytime I know I'll be waiting. Lately I've been taking a book down to the courtroom to read between hearings.
Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
Yes. In fact I would say almost always.
Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?
Only in that I might skip around with the chapters, if the book is set up in a way to make that possible.
Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
I buy most of them, or get them from Paperbackswap, or at the used bookstore. I do try to get them from the library first, but our library is very slow about getting some books, and their sci-fi selection is abysmal.
Do you keep most of the books you buy? If not, what do you do with them?
I keep the ones I like, and either swap them on Paperbackswap or sell them at the used bookstore. Some I pass on to friends.
If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them? Were they some of the same ones you read as a child?
I don't have children, but my nephew has inherited our childhood book collection, and loves them as much as we did.

Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?
No, but I have a pile - well, actually two piles right now - of books to read next.
What’s next?
I have one coming from Amazon - "Watching the English." And my sister has one that she'll be passing on to me, but the title escapes me right now. I have a towering pile to be read, but those are the likely next suspects.
What books would you like to reread?
I keep thinking I should pick up Dune again.

Lazy Sunday Meme
Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people.
The closest book was "The Stand" by Stephen King. The sentences are:
"A doctor in Sipe Springs had made some good guesses, and a pair of reporters for a Houston daily had linked what was happening in Sipe Springs with what had already happened in Arnette, Verona, Commerce city, and a town called Polliston, Kansas. Those were the towns where the problem had gotten so bad so fast that the army had been called in to quarantine. The computer had a list of twenty-five other towns in ten states where traces of Blue were beginning to show up."
I love these memes because the are so random: like the Exquisite Corpse game the Surrealists used to play. I confess we used to spend hours playing that in college; we were such geeks. I won't tag anyone, but you are welcome to play and post in the ocmments if you do!

Library Meme
I saw this over at Becky's Book Reviews and it looked like fun:
February is Library Lovers' Month)
How do you plan on celebrating Library Lovers month?
By visiting the library as usual!
How often do you accidentally spell library as 'libary' when you're in a hurry?
Well, I thought my answer would be "never" but I did it once while writing the opening to this post, so...
What is the most amount of books you've ever had checked out at one time?
From the university library as an undergrad, I think I had 50 or so out at once while working on my senior thesis. Students in the Honors Program were allowed unlimited checkouts, and the due date was the end of the semester instead of 3 weeks, so I accumulated a lot of books. My roommate and I loaded up her car with all of our books at the end of the semester and returned them all at once.
From the public library, I think 25 or so. I think they limit us to 30, so I try to stay well within that!
What is the longest you've ever gone without visiting the library?
Maybe two weeks? Right now I'm spoiled because I can put books on hold at the library and my mom will go pick them up for me, because they let us link our cards together. So I don't have to go, but still get the library books!
What is the biggest fine you've ever had?
I had to pay to replace two audio books because they were in my car when it was destroyed in a parking lot fire.
Oh, you want the rest of that story? Okay:
It was my last day of work at this company. I parked in a different spot than usual, because I scored a shady spot after lunch. The person who owned the car that was parked next to mine took their smoke break in their car. After they lit their cigarette, they tossed the match into the back seat (apparently thinking it would go out by itself?) and it landed on some newspaper in the back seat. They tried to put it out, but failed, and by the time the fire department got there my car and the car next to mine (as well as the original car) were all totally engulfed in flames. Of course, I didn't know anything about it until they evacuated our building "due to a fire in the parking lot." And there was my poor car.
Have you ever been shushed or hushed by a librarian?
In high school, more than I'd like to remember. The public library now doesn't seem to have a noise policy, unfortunately.
What is the worst (against-the-rules) thing you've ever done in the library?
Eating lunch in the law school library.
What's the worst thing you've ever done to a library book?
Nothing intentional.
Have you ever had a "favorite" librarian?
My dad was a librarian, so I guess he wins!
If you could change one thing about your library it would be...
I wish they had the budget to have a wider variety of books, and more magazines. Also that they had a noise policy.
